The reigning National Player of the Year has been solid in the preseason and looks ready to defend her award.

Sarah Strong, the UConn Huskies star and reigning National Player of the Year, looks ready for her regular season to start.

The stalwart led the way on Sunday with 19 points as UConn toppled Army 86-50 at Gampel Pavilion. She was just 7-of-17 shooting, but she added seven rebounds, a block and a steal, as well as three assists. She was 2-of-6 from 3-point range.

After the game, head coach Geno Auriemma spoke to the media about Strong's game, saying that he likes her playing on the perimeter more this preseason. For starters, her time on the perimeter can help open up lane for post players like Olivia Vukosa and Blanca Quinonez, when she's healthy.

Furthermore, Auriemma said that he likes to keep Strong moving, because the more she moves, the less chance she has to fall victim to a double team. As the National Player of the Year, it's clear that Strong garners a lot of attention. Auriemma is trying to minimize some of that attention the best he can.

However, he also mentioned that they have to do a better job of getting her in the post and not just having her sit on the perimeter. For instance, Strong took six 3-pointers on Sunday, which is more than the four a game she took a season ago. She's consistently shot the 3-ball in this preseason.

It will be a constant balance for Auriemma this season with regards to where Strong is on the floor.
