After already securing Oskar Giltay in the portal, could the Huskies have another move up their sleeves?

After already securing a commitment from Stanford transfer Oskar Giltay, could the UConn men's basketball program get another transfer with an international background?

It's possible, as Storrs Central notes on social media that Wofford transfer Nils Machowski is visiting campus on Saturday. A 6'3 junior from Berlin, he averaged 17.2 ppg this past season for the Terriers while also securing 5.7 rebounds and dishing out 2.6 assists.

He played in 32 games this past season after starting his career at Central Florida. In those two years, he averaged only 2.9 ppg.

Here are some of the discussion points you need to know and think about.

Why Machowski makes perfect sense for the Huskies

1) First off, you can never have enough complete players on a roster. It's that simple. Machowski can score and rebound from the guard position. That's valuable - especially in a physical conference like the Big East.

2) Second off, Machowski should have an easier time getting looks at UConn than he did at Wofford, presumably, which should help him get a rhythm offensively. Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins will both be bigger focuses from defenses, which should free Machowski up for some open looks.

3) With Solo Ball hurt and out for the year, the Huskies need help at the guard position. Machowski will be a senior who can provide it, and then he'll exit as Ball is ready to come back in 2027-28.

Where there are questions

Machowski played in the Big 12 at Central Florida and didn't make much of an impact, can we really expect him to come into the Big East and make an impact right away, or is he just a guy that is better suited for a mid-level conference?

Was his limited productivity in the Big 12 simply because he was young and inexperienced, or does it reflect his true skill level?

It will be up to Dan Hurley to decide.

Also on campus

Day 3 of the NFL Draft takes place on Saturday and Huskies alum Skyler Bell is still waiting to hear his name called. The AP All-American was surprisingly not taken on Day 2, but shouldn't have to wait long on the final day.

Quarterback Joe Fagnano is also a draft possibility, though he's not expected to be taken until the sixth or seventh round, if at all.

The duo led the Huskies to a 9-3 record in 2025, earning a trip to the Fenway Bowl.
