Danny Sprinkle's team rallied to beat Southern California in the opener of the conference tournament on Wednesday.

The University of Washington men's basketball team opened up Big Ten Conference Tournament play with an 83-79 overtime win against Southern California on Wednesday afternoon in Chicago.

The Huskies, seeded No. 12, are now 16-16 on the campaign while USC saw its season come to an end at 18-14. As a result, UW will take on No. 5 Wisconsin in the third round on Thursday afternoon. The first game of the day begins at 9 a.m. PT and Washington will play 25 minutes after that game ends.

Though the Huskies won against the Trojans, it wasn't easy: UW trailed at the half and by 11 before mounting the comeback. Comebacks were actually the theme of the day in Chicago, as Washington was part of some never-before-seen history.

Per @OptaSTATS on social media:

Teams trailing at halftime went 4-0 in the Big Ten Tournament today.

It's the only time in Division I in the last 30 seasons 4 different teams overcame a halftime deficit to win on any single day of any single conference tournament.

Iowa, Washington, Northwestern and Rutgers all trailed before winning and advancing.

Thursday's schedule

No. 9 Iowa vs. No. 8 Ohio State (9 a.m. PT)

No. 12 Washington vs. No. 5 Wisconsin (25 minutes after conclusion)

No. 15 Northwestern vs. No. 7 Purdue (2:30 p.m. PT)

No. 14 Rutgers vs. No. 6 UCLA (25 minutes after conclusion)

Wisconsin is 22-9 on the season and beat Washington 90-73 on Feb. 28.

Elsewhere for UW

After being out of the college game for the last two seasons, former University of Washington men's basketball coach Mike Hopkins is drawing interest again as the next hiring cycle approaches.

According to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports, Hopkins is in the mix for the job at Syracuse University, which just fired head coach Adrian Autry after three seasons on Wednesday morning. The Orange went 15-17 and were eliminated in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament on Tuesday.
