
The Washington Huskies women's basketball team had a dominant beginning to the season in a 90-43 win against the Seattle University Redhawks on Monday at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
The Huskies had full control of the game from the opening tip-off.
Washington outpaced its in-city opponents in every facet of the game. The Huskies shot 52.2% from the floor (35-for-67) and 37.5% from 3-point range (6-for-16) compared to 28.3% from the field (17-for-60) and 20% from beyond the arc (4-for-20) for the Redhawks.
Washington's defense stonewalled Seattle U at every point Monday. The Huskies forced 21 turnovers, blocked nine shots and had 11 steals.
Freshman forward and five-star recruit Brynn McGaughy had two blocks and junior forward Olivia Anderson had four. The Huskies didn't allow the Redhawks to score more than 13 points in a single quarter and the latter was limited to just seven points in the fourth.
Washington coupled its stellar night on defense with a top-tier showings on the offensive end of the floor.
The Huskies outscored Seattle U 23-13 in the first quarter and went into halftime with a 49-23 lead.
Junior guard Sayvia Sellers, sophomore guard Avery Howell and freshman guard Sienna Harvey led the scoring output for Washington.
Sellers had a game-high 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor, 2-for-3 from the free-throw line and 1-for-4 from 3-point range. She brought in three rebounds and dished six assists.
Howell, a transfer from Southern California (USC), scored 18 points. She was 100% from the floor and converted on all five shots, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. She was 4-for-5 from the charity stripe and had four rebounds.
Harvey, who suited up for her first game in the purple and gold, scored 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including a 1-for-2 mark from 3-point range and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Twelve of the 14 players on the roster were on the court double-digit minutes.
The 1-0 Washington team will next be in action against Montana at 6 p.m. PT on Nov. 10 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
