The Huskies continued their success in in-state recruitment by landing Puyallup, Wash., native Gecova Doyal
The Washington Huskies football team is making the final push for its Class of 2027 recruiting, and landed one of the top targets remaining on their board.
The Huskies landed a commitment from four-star offensive tackle Gecova Doyal on Wednesday. Doyal choose UW over other finalists the Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins and Utah Utes. Doyal announced his commitment in a livestream on the Rivals YouTube channel.
Doyal was Washington's second offensive line commitment of the day after three-star offensive tackle and son of former UW All-American Lincoln Kennedy, Tye Kennedy, announced his intention to head to the Pacific Northwest.
Doyal was a local target for the Huskies, who attends Puyallup High School in Puyallup, Wash. Following his commitment, Doyal said he had a "better relationship" with Washington's coaching staff compared to other teams on his final list.
For most of his recruitment, it seemed like it was a two-man race between the Ducks and Huskies to land the PNW offensive lineman. Washington first offered him May 13, 2024, and Oregon extended an offer June 15, 2024. Doyal was a common attendee at events with the Ducks football team last year. He made five unofficial and one official visit with Oregon, compared to two unofficial visits and one official trip with UW.
Utah made an extended push to land Doyal during his official visit in June, but was unable to push past the Huskies or Ducks.
Doyal is ranked as the 361st best overall player, 16th-best interior offensive lineman and fourth-best player in the state per the 247Sports composite. Similar to Kennedy, Doyal is listed as an offensive tackle but is considered versatile enough to play multiple positions on the line.
Doyal is ranked as the 371st-best player in the country, 25th-best interior offensive lineman and fifth-best player in Washington per Rivals Industry rankings.
Doyal's commitment also maintained Washington's continued success in landing top in-state recruits.
The Huskies have landed five of the top seven players in Washington per the 247Sports composite: four-star wide receiver Braylon Pope (No. 1); four-star defensive lineman Tevita Nonu (No. 2); Doyal (No. 4); three-star tight end Zach Albright (No. 6) and three-star cornerback/athlete Maurice Williams (No. 7).
Following Kennedy and Doyal's respective commitments, Washington's '27 recruiting class ranks 25th in the country, per 247Sports. They were the 22nd and 23rd commitments of the class, respectively and the second and third offensive linemen to join UW. The other was three-star interior offensive lineman Reis Russell.
