According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Kirkland Parker is headed to North Texas.

According to a recent report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the University of Washington football program is set to lose assistant defensive backs coach Kirkland Parker, who is joining the staff at North Texas.

North Texas is expected to hire Washington assistant defensive backs coach Kirkland Parker as safeties coach, a source tells @CBSSports.

Parker, a Texas native and former Washington State defensive back, worked at Washington the last three seasons.

While North Texas is a lower-level program that Washington, Parker will get an opportunity to be more hands-on and run his positional group.

Parker is a Houston, Texas native, so this job also represents a homecoming for him. A three-year player for Washington State, Parker played in 31 games and had 37 tackles. He also forced a fumble and four pass breakups.

Change in college football is just par for the course, especially these days. The Huskies recently let offensive coordinator Jimmy Daugherty go, in addition to bringing in multiple transfer portal players and losing multiple others.

The biggest program question

The biggest question for UW right now centers on quarterback Demond Williams Jr. After his transfer portal dalliance at the beginning of 2026, how do his teammates accept him back into the fold this season? How is his focus? Is he happy to be at Washington or resentful of his situation?

It all remains to be seen, but until the games start, it is the cloud hanging over the entire program.

Washington went 9-4 last season, winning the LA Bowl over Boise State.
