The Huskies' top-13-ranked recruiting class added another blue chip prospect after National Signing Day

The Washington Huskies football team inked the highest-ranked recruiting class in program history earlier this week.

On National Signing Day on Wednesday, the Huskies had 23 class of 2026 recruits ink letters of commitment.

The class included one five-star player, 10 four-star players and 12 four-star players.

Going position-by-position, Washington brought in four cornerbacks, three defensive linemen, an edge, an interior offensive lineman, a kicker, two linebackers, two offensive tackles, a quarterback, two running backs, a safety, a tight end and four wide receivers.

Soon after the signings and recruiting class was announced, the Huskies announced the commitment of a 13th three-star player and fourth defensive lineman, David Schwerzel.

Schwerzel is a student at O'Dea in Seattle, Washington's backyard, and had been on the Dawgs' radar for months.

Schwerzel was originally offered by the Huskies on April 16, 2023. In the over-two-years since, he received offers from Penn State, Miami, Stanford, UCLA, Cal and Michigan State, among others, on top of having existing offers from Louisville and Michigan.

Schwerzel had a tumultuous recruiting journey that saw him commit and decommit from several programs.

The '26 graduate originally committed to UCLA on June 19. He decommitted from the Bruins after the firing of head coach DeShaun Foster. He proceeded to commit to Stanford on Oct. 19, decommitted from the Cardinal on Dec. 2, recommitted to UCLA the same day, then flipped his commitment to Washington on Dec. 3 and signed his letter of intent the same day.

Schwerzel announced his recommitment to the Bruins the night of Dec. 2, but announced he had yet to sign a letter of intent in the early afternoon of Dec. 3 in a post on "X."

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, I have not yet signed. Still praying, discussing, and weighing out my options. This is one of the biggest decisions that I will make in my life…"

Schwerzel announced his commitment to the Huskies roughly seven hours after he stated he was yet to a sign a letter of intent.

Currently, the Washington's recruiting class ranks 13th in the nation and has a composite grade of 89.53 according to 247Sports. That ranking is fifth overall in the Big Ten behind USC (No. 1), Oregon (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 6) and Michigan (No. 11).
