The consensus five-star recruit and Tacoma, Wash., native recently requested her release from her contract with Tennessee

The Washington Huskies women's basketball team had its most successful season in over a decade and will be looking to take another step forward in 2026-27.

The Huskies finished the year 22-11 and fell by three points in overtime to the TCU Horned Frogs in the Round of 32 in the NCAA tournament. This March marked the first tournament win in three berths for head coach Tina Langley, who signed a six-year extension to remain the coach. It also was the first NCAA tournament win since 2017 for the program.

Washington appears set to return most of the key contributors from this past season, including first-team All-Big Ten guard Sayvia Sellers, All-Big Ten honorable mention guard Avery Howell and All-Freshman forward Brynn McGaughy.

Even with those all-conference honorees expected to return, the Huskies will still have to traverse the portal to find new additions.

UW saw several seniors, including 2024-25 all-conference guard Elle Ladine, run out of eligibility this season. The team also has several bench contributors, including guard Sienna Harvey, guard Chloe Briggs and forward Olivia Anderson, in the transfer portal.

Coming off a successful season and being a member of the Big Ten, Washington will likely be involved in the recruitment of several of the better players available.

But the Huskies biggest potential get could be a potential decommit rather than a portal acquisition.

According to a report on "X" from On3 Sports writer Talia Goodman, consensus five-star recruit and the fifth-best player available in the class (per 247Sports), forward Oliviyah Edwards, recently requested her release from the contract she signed with Tennessee.

Edwards, a Tacoma, Wash., native and McDonald's All-American, had Washington among her final teams before signing with the Lady Vols.

Including the Huskies and Tennessee, Edwards also had South Carolina, Southern California (USC), LSU and Florida in her top six before making her initial commitment.

If Langley and Washington are able to make the most of this second opportunity, Edwards would be the second five-star recruit the program has landed in the last two seasons (McGaughy being the other one in 2025).

McGaughy and Edwards would make up one of the most talented frontcourts in the Big Ten. It would also represent something of a full circle moment for both players.

While McGaughy was going through her recruitment in 2023, she participated in the Adidas AAU circuit with Meta Hoops Idaho. She played Edwards' team while on the circuit, where the two put on a great display against one another.

The Dawgs are already considered one of the better teams in the Big Ten. A commitment from Edwards would instantly put them in legitimate contender status.
