The University of Washington football team is on the right side of some recent history heading into Saturday's showdown with No. 1 Ohio State.
The Huskies, though unranked in the latest AP Poll, are 3-0. And though they didn't receive a single vote in the AP Poll, they are getting some love from the gambling community.
According to Stuckey of the Action Network, Washington is just the second unranked team to be favored by less than 10 points against No. 1 in the last 20 seasons. The Huskies are underdogs by only 8.5 points. The only other time it happened was in 2012, when USC was unranked and only a 4.5-point underdog against No. 1 Notre Dame.
The defending national champions, it's easy to understand why Ohio State is the favorite despite being on the road at Husky Stadium. But it's also easy to understand Washington is being given a fighting chance.
They have the No. 2 scoring offense in the country at 58 ppg, and they have running back Jonah Coleman, who leads the nation in scrimmage touchdowns with 10. Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. is also the reigning Big 10 co-Offensive Player of the Week and presents a dynamic threat through the air and on the ground.
As for Ohio State, they are also 3-0, but they were only able to score 14 points on Texas in a Week 1 win, and they were only up 13-3 at halftime against Ohio before separating in their most recent victory. While undefeated, they have shown some vulnerabilities, and perhaps Washington can exploit them while playing at home in front of a raucous Husky Stadium crowd.
This is the biggest game in Seattle since Oregon came to town in 2023. Washington won that game and proceeded to advance to the College Football Playoff title game, where they were beaten by Michigan.
Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. PT and the game will be aired on CBS.
