The Washington Huskies men's basketball team is coming off its most impressive win of the season.
The Huskies came back from 18 points at halftime to beat the then-undefeated No. 24 USC Trojans 84-76 on Dec. 6.
The win improved Washington's record to 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten.
As has been the case for most of the Huskies' games this season, freshman forward Hannes Steinbach had his fingerprints all over the Dawgs' win.
The 19-year-old, 6-foot-11 big man had his fifth-straight double-double against the Trojans. He scored 24 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor (2-for-3 from 3-point range) and pulled in 16 rebounds.
Saturday marked Steinbach's second-straight double-double of 20-plus points. He put 29 points on an 11-for-12 clip from the floor and had 10 rebounds in Washington's 82-80 loss against No. 25 UCLA on Dec. 3.
For his pair of 20-point double-doubles, Steinbach earned a pair of Player of the Week honors.
Steinbach was named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week on Monday and was named the Freshman of the Week by NCAA analyst Andy Katz, also on Monday.
The Huskies entered this season with a completely retooled roster. Of the 15 players on the team, 13 were either freshmen or transferred in.
Steinbach, despite missing three games due to an ankle sprain and being a first-year player, has emerged as Washington's best player.
In six games, Steinbach is averaging a team-leading 18.5 points per game, is shooting 63.1% from the floor and is pulling in 12.8 rebounds per game. His rebounds per game and field goal percentage also lead the team.
Steinbach has started to receive more recognition across the country from fans and analysts for his play this season.
The Huskies haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 2019. If they break that dry spell, Steinbach will be a large reason why.
Steinbach and Washington will next be in action against Southern Utah at 3 p.m. PT on Dec. 13 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
The Huskies' next Big Ten game will be against the Indiana Hoosiers at 5 p.m PT on Jan. 4 at Bloomington Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.
