Five-star Class of 2027 forward Ahmed Nur has the Huskies among the top teams he's considering.
The Washington Huskies men's basketball team seems to be putting a lot of eggs into its recruiting basket for the Class of 2027 and 2028, respectively.
The Huskies are in the thick of the recruitment for several of the top players available in the '27 class, including top 15 player Malachi Jordan and top 50 player J'Lon Lyons. UW has made both players' respective lists of the final eight teams they're considering.
In addition to those two, Washington has remained involved in the thick of the recruitment of five-star combo guard and Bremerton, Wash., native Jalen Davis.
The Huskies also seem to be one of the top teams in the running for five-star power forward Ahmed Nur.
Based on comments made by Nur is a story written by Dushawn London of 247Sports, UW is high on the consideration list for the future '27 graduate. Other notable programs being considered by Nur including the Ole Miss Rebels, Syracuse Orange and Purdue Boilermakers, among others.
The 6-foot-8, 190-pound power forward is set for an official visit with Washington on Sept. 6.
Nur, who attends Bella Vista College Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz., is ranked as the 23rd-best overall player, fourth-best power forward and fifth-best player in Arizona in his class, per the 247Sports Composite.
Rivals' Industry Rankings have Nur ranked as the 22nd-best overall player, third-best power forward and sixth-best player in the state.
On3 Sports' prediction model seems to also coincide with Nur's interest in the Huskies.
Per the website's predictions, Purdue has the likeliest odds to land Nur at 25.5%, Ole Miss has the second-best odds at 22.4%, Syracuse has the third-best chance to earn a commitment at 19.2% and Washington is fourth on the list at 16%.
The odds seem to indicate that the door is still wide open for the Huskies to make a final push to land Nur, which bodes well for the team's potential '27 recruiting class.
In the Class of 2026, Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle was only able to earn one commitment: three-star small forward Lattimore Ford. The third-year head coach filled out the rest of the 15-man roster with a combination of transfer portal additions and international recruits.
This offseason marked a stark change from Sprinkle's first two seasons on the job, where, in addition to being active in the portal, the Huskies were able to earn commitments from notable high school players such as Zoom Diallo, JJ Mandaquit and Courtland Muldrew, among others.
If Washington lands commitments from several of the aforementioned players, the team won't have to rely as heavily on the portal or international recruiting pipelines next year.
