Huskies defensive end Zach Durfee was drafted in the seventh round by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and subsequently confirmed as an anonymous player featured in a recent article
The number "seven" was an important one for former Washington Huskies defensive end Zach Durfee on Saturday.
It was the seventh (and final) round of the 2026 NFL Draft that Durfee heard his name called by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who took him with the 233rd overall pick.
Durfee was also the seventh and final Husky to hear his name called in the draft. The edge rusher joined wide receiver Denzel Boston, cornerback Tacario Davis, running back Jonah Coleman, offensive lineman Carver Willis, cornerback Ephesians Prysock and defensive tackle Anterio Thompson as the other players to be selected in the draft.
In addition to the number "seven," Durfee also had an important letter attached to him in the lead up to and following the draft: the letter "x."
For the last several years, ESPN has released a series of articles in the lead up to the draft called "Prospect X." The series highlights one underlooked and/or undervalued in the lead up to the draft.
ESPN writer Kalyn Kahler, who's been responsible for writing the series over the last several years, released the article featuring this year's "Prospect X" on April 21.
When Kahler released her article, there was speculation that Durfee was the anonymous player featured.
On Tuesday, Kahler confirmed via a follow-up article that Durfee was "Prospect X."
Durfee, who began his career at the NCAA Division II-school Sioux Falls, transferred to Washington ahead of the 2023 season. He initially had his eligibility waiver denied, which prevented him from playing most that season.
From 2024-25, Durfee was limited to just 17 games over those two seasons due to injuries.
The 6-foot-5, 256-pound defensive end concluded his last year in the Pacific Northwest with 37 total tackles (16 solo), including five tackles for loss. He also had four sacks, two passes defended and one forced fumble.
Due to Durfee's injuries and limited time on the field, he didn't receive an invite to the 2026 NFL Combine but started to get on many team's respective radars with his performance at Washington's pro day March 16.
Durfee leapt 39 inches in the vertical jump and ran a 4.55-second 40-yard dash. His time in the 40-yard dash would have been fourth among the edge rushers who were at the combine.
Durfee's vertical jump would have been tied for the fourth-highest among the defensive ends at the combine.
Durfee's athleticism put him on the radar of the Jaguars, and the hope is the football player he is will help him carve out a spot on the team's 53-man roster.
