The Huskies bolstered the secondary in their '27 class following a commitment from Isala Aisa Wily-Ava
The Washington Huskies football team recently landed their 14th player in the Class of 2027.
According to a post on "X" from college football insider Leyon Robers on Friday night, three-star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava committed to the Huskies. He became the first safety to commit to UW in the Class of '27.
Wily-Ava committed to Washington over other finalists Arizona State, BYU and Arkansas.
Wily-Ava is ranked as the 414th-best player in the country, 38th-best safety and 36th-best player in California in the class according to the 247Sports Composite. Wily-Ava attends St. John Bosco in Bellflower, Calif.
Rivals.com has Wily-Ava ranked as the 439th-best overall player in the country, the 39th-best safety and 37th-best player in California in the class.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety is set to compete in the 2027 Adidas Polynesian Bowl on Jan. 15, 2027.
In his sophomore and junior year of high school in 2024 and 2025, respectively, Wily-Ava has totaled 112 total tackles, including four tackles for loss, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, eight interceptions and one sack.
Huskies safety coach Taylor Mays handled the recruiting for Wily-Ava. According to a story published by Rivals.com reporter Adam Gorney, Mays made an effort to connect with both the player and his family.
According to Gorney, Mays flew out to Hawaii to visit Wily-Ava's grandfather, a gesture that the new commit said he "appreciated."
Mays' college and professional pedigree as a player was also a draw for the St. John Bosco safety.
"He’s been through it all, been through the league, played safety," Wily-Ava said in Gorney's story. "Just learning from him and filling his shoes, that’s really big."
The Huskies' '27 recruiting class is now comprised of: Wily-Ava, four-star defensive lineman Jon Ioane, four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf, four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney, three-star wide receiver Braylon Pope, three-star tight end Zach Albright, three-star cornerback/athlete Maurice Williams, three-star running back Jeremy Adeyanju, three-star defensive lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei, three-star interior offensive lineman Reis Russell and three-star linebackers Isaiah Leilua, Ethan Coach, Justin Coach and Titus Osterman.
Before Wily-Ava's commitment, Washington's recruiting class ranked 13th in the country, per 247Sports. The 12 teams ranked ahead of the Huskies are, in order: Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Southern California (USC), Penn State, UCLA, Florida, Oregon, Kentucky, Ohio State, Miami and Minnesota.
The Huskies will also be awaiting the decisions of other '27 recruits they're among the finalists for, including, but not limited to: four-star wide receivers Osani Gayles, Tre Moore and Dontay Tyson Jr. and four-star safety Gavin Williams.
