Dontay Tyson Jr. became the latest member of what has becoming a stacked 2027 recruiting class
The Washington Huskies continued to build one of the most impressive recruiting classes in program history Thursday.
The Huskies, days after earning a commitment from four-star wide receiver Tre Moore, earned another commitment a four-star receiver in his own right, Dontay Tyson Jr.
Tyson, in a livestream on the Major Podcast YouTube channel, picked Washington over other finalist, the Texas A&M Aggies.
Tyson had been down to the Huskies and the Aggies for months, but his recent official visit to UW's campus in Seattle, which took place from May 29-31, seemed to give Washington the edge.
Tyson moved up his commitment date after his official visit with the Huskies. Four-star Class of 2026 wide receiver and true freshmen Jordan Clay was Tyson's host on the trip.
Tyson attends Peoria High School in Peoria, Ariz., which has been a recruiting hot bed for head coach Jedd Fisch and wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings since the two were in the same roles with the Arizona Wildcats from 2021-23.
Tyson is ranked as the 325th-best overall player, 42nd-best wide receiver and seventh-best player in Arizona in the Class of 2027 per the 247Sports composite.
Rivals.com has Tyson ranked as the 326th-best overall player, 48th-best wide receiver and seventh-best player in Arizona in the class.
According to MaxPreps, Tyson caught 37 passes for 448 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games.
Tyson is the fourth wide receiver from the '27 class to commit to Washington. The other three were Moore, four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney and three-star wide receiver Braylon Pope. In addition to his fellow pass-catchers, UW also earned a commitment from the 12th-best quarterback in the class (per the 247Sports composite), Blake Roskopf.
The Huskies currently have the 17th-ranked recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports.
The 16 teams ranked ahead of Washington in the recruiting rankings are, in order: Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida, Notre Dame, Clemson, Penn State, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Southern California (USC), Ohio State, Oregon, Minnesota, Michigan, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
Tyson's the 17th overall commitment in the '27 class. The players who have committed outside of Moore, Tyson, Sidney, Pope and Roskopf are: four-star defensive linemen Jon Ioane and Tevita Nonu, three-star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava, three-star tight end Zach Albright, three-star cornerback/athlete Maurice Williams, three-star running back Jeremy Adeyanju, three-star interior offensive lineman Reis Russell, three-star defensive lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei and three-star linebackers Isaiah Leilua, Ethan Coach, Justin Coach and Titus Osterman.
