The Washington Huskies football team is entering this season with several publications having the team ranked within preseason top 25 polls.

Most of the expectations are tied to the roster the Huskies have returning from a 9-4 season last year, including junior quarterback Demond Williams Jr., who led the Big Ten in total yards (3,676).

Apparently, the coaching staff is receiving some recognition, as well.

In the last week, the account Matrix Analytical put out its list of top positional coaches, defensive coordinators/play callers, offensive coordinators/play callers and special teams coaches in the Big Ten.

Washington's coaching staff was well-represented on the various rankings and head coach Jedd Fisch apparently took notice.

The highest-ranking positional coach among the Huskies' coaching staff was wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings, who ranked second, which prompted a GIF stating "facts" from Fisch, which he posted on his official "X" accounted.

The only coach ranked ahead of Cummings was Southern California (USC) WRs coach Denis Simons.

Under Cummings coaching, the team's leading receiver from last year, Denzel Boston, was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns and seems in line to earn starting reps his rookie season.

Cummings has also recruited the team's second-leading receiver from last year and the presumptive No. 1 target for Williams this season, sophomore Dezmen Roebuck.

Cummings' recruiting wins also includes flipping four-star Class of 2026 wide receiver Jordan Clay, who will compete for a starting outside receiver spot in summer camp, and four wide receivers from the Class of 2027: four-stars Tre Moore, Dontay Tyson Jr. and Braylon Pope and three-star Zerek Sidney. 

Linebackers coach Brian Odom was ranked fourth among his Big Ten peers, behind Iowa linebackers coach Seth Wallace, Indiana's Bryant Haines and Penn State's Tyson Veidt.

Defensive coordinator Ryan Walters ranked third among Matrix Analytical's defensive play callers list, behind Iowa's Phil Parker and Indiana's Haines.

Perhaps the most unsatisfactory ranking, for both Fisch and UW fans, was the placement of defensive backs coach John Richardson.

Richardson placed ninth in Matrix Analytical's rankings, behind Iowa's Parker, Ohio State's Tim Walton, Illinois' Corey Parker and Ronnie Bradford, Penn State's Terry Smith, Indiana's Rod Ojong, Michigan State's Hank Poteat and Oregon's Chris Hampton.

Fisch responded to the rankings with a GIF of multiple people scratching their head.

Richardson has similar success coaching his starting cornerbacks to the level where they were drafted. Starting outside cornerbacks Ephesians Prysock (San Francisco 49ers) and Tacario Davis (Cincinnati Bengals) were both selected in the '26 NFL Draft. This year's projected starting corners, sophomore Dylan Robinson and senior Emmanuel Karnley, were among the team's top performers in spring practice.

Not all of the rankings might have been ideal for Fisch's staff, but it's a sign that the staff is well-regarded. And if they continue to meet and exceed the rankings Matrix Analytical and several other analysts and publications have for them, the team could be in a good place next season.
