The Washington Huskies added a fringe-blue chip prospect to its 2027 recruiting class Thursday.
At 11:30 a.m. PT, four-star athlete/defensive lineman Jon Ioane (Tustin, Calif.) chose between the Huskies, Stanford, Cal, UCLA and Penn State on a live stream on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.
With a resounding "Go Dawgs," Ioane chose Washington over the other options, which included two of UW's Big Ten rivals (UCLA, Penn State).
Ioane, who attends Tustin High School in his native city, is ranked as the 183rd-best overall player, ninth-best athlete and 12th best player in California in his class according to 247Sports.
The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder is likely to play interior defensive line in the college ranks but is a versatile athlete overall. In his sophomore year in 2024, he recorded reps at defensive tackle, offensive line, quarterback and tight end.
In his junior year in 2025, Ioane registered 50 tackles (including 14 tackles for loss), 21 quarterback hits, four sacks, three pass breakups and one forced fumble across 10 games.
Ioane became the 10th commitment in the Huskies' 2027 recruiting cycle and the second four-star recruit. Half of UW's '27 class hail from California.
Including Ioane, Washington's 2027 recruiting class is now comprised of: four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney, three-star wide receiver Braylon Pope, three-star cornerback/athlete Maurice Williams, three-star running back Jeremy Adeyanju, three-star linebackers Isaiah Leilua, Ethan Coach, Justin Coach and Titus Osterman and three-star defensive lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei.
Before Ioane's commitment, the Huskies' recruiting class was ranked sixth in the country. The five teams ranked ahead of Washington were, in order: Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia (according to 247Sports).
"Washington is the best fit for me," Ioane said in a story written by Greg Biggens for Rivals.com. "I honestly think it’s a perfect for both sides, I fit Washington and they fit me and what I was looking for. It’s a school where I can be comfortable being me. ... I always had a gut feeling I was going to end up at Washington. It was only a matter of time and the more I thought about it, I wanted (to just) go ahead and do it and not have Washington waiting around for me and stressing about it."
The Huskies' 2026 recruiting class ranked 12th in the country, which was the highest ranking a crop of UW recruits has received in program history.
Currently, it looks like Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch and the rest of the coaching staff are set to pass the bench mark set in '26.
