Steele Venters will be playing his last year of college ball with the Huskies

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team has been hard at-work scheduling visits and getting into contact with potential transfer portal acquisitions this offseason.

The Huskies need to fill roughly seven-to-eight spots on the roster and found a player for one of those roles Wednesday night.

According to a post on his personal Instagram account (@steeleventers), senior wing/forward Steele Venters, who's in the portal from Gaonzaga, will play with Washington for his final year of eligibility.

Venters, along with Texas Tech senior forward LeJuan Watts, took visits to the UW campus this past weekend.

Venters, an Ellensburg, Wash., native, has spent his entire collegiate career in his home state but has drawn the short straw when it comes to injury luck over the last several seasons.

Venters spent the first three years of his college career with the Eastern Washington Eagles in Cheney, Wash., from 2020-23.

During his time with the Eagles, the 6-foot-7, 200-pound wing was a two-time All-Big Sky player — second team in 2022 and first-team in 2023. He was named the Big Sky Player of the Year in '23. That season, he averaged 15.3 points across 34 games (all starts) on 45.7% shooting in addition to 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

After the '22-23 season, Venters took a 16-mile drive and transferred from Eastern Washington to the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Venters' first two seasons with Gonzaga were mired with injury. He missed the '23-24 year due to a torn Achilles tendon. While he was rehabbing from that injury, he tore his ACL and ended up missing the '24-25 season.

The 24-year-old finally made his Bulldogs debut last season. He averaged five points per game on 38.6% shooting across 27 contests (10 starts) in addition to 1.3 rebounds and an assist per game.

Venters began the season on the starting rotation but, due to other ailments the roster experienced, found his playing time diminished as head coach Mark Few opted to go for a more defensive-minded roster.

Venters and Gonzaga advanced to the Round of 32 of the NCAA tournament before it was eliminated by Texas.

Due to his initial redshirt season in '19-20, and his additional two medical redshirt seasons, Venters has one more year of eligibility left.

Venters has a career 3-point percentage of 39.6%, making him a potential "3-and-D" starter/sixth-man for Washington. He's also capable of scoring in the post or at the mid-range, which could expand his role to a three-level scoring option for the Huskies.

The men's basketball transfer portal window closes April 21.
