The Huskies are hosting 2028 edge rusher Tahj Gray while also attempting to land his older brother and 2027 edge rusher Chaz Gray.
The Washington Huskies have steadily raised their recruiting proficiency since current head coach Jedd Fisch was hired ahead of the 2024 season.
Fisch's recruiting pedigree led to the Huskies inking their best recruiting class in program history (ranking wise) in 2026. The crop of '26 high school graduates ranked 12th in the country and are expected to produce several true freshmen contributors, including wide receiver Jordan Clay, left tackle Kodi Greene and defensive lineman Derek Colman-Brusa.
Washington's 2027 recruiting class is currently on track to either meet or come near the '26 class.
The Huskies' current group of '27 recruits currently ranks 17th in the country, per 247Sports.
Over this past weekend, Washington hosted several of its top remaining targets in the '27 recruiting class, including four-star wide receiver Dontay Tyson Jr., four-star defensive back Jailen Hill, four-star cornerback Kamil Loud and three-star edge rusher Chaz Gray.
Gray has been a player on the Huskies' radar for over a year now. UW first offered the St. Joseph Regional (New Jersey) edge rusher Feb. 3, 2025. Based on the timeline on his player page on 247Sports, Washington was the first Power Four program to offer him.
Despite being a three-star, Gray has commanded offers from several notable Power Four programs in recent months such as Georgia, Tennessee, Penn State and Ohio State, among others.
Even with other notable Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Big Ten programs getting involved in his recruitment, Washington has remained at the forefront of Gray's recruiting.
Currently, Gray is "warm" on the Huskies, in addition to Tennessee and Nebraska. According to Rivals.com's prediction model, Washington is the front-runner to land Gray at 31.7%. The Maryland Terrapins are in second place at 10.4%.
Gray is ranked as the 439th-best overall player, 38th-best edge and ninth-best player in New Jersey per the 247Sports composite.
Whether the Huskies land a commitment from Gray or not, he isn't the only one in the family that the team is pursuing.
According to a story post on his official Instagram page, Chaz Gray's younger brother, Tahj Gray, was also in the Pacific Northwest this past weekend.
The younger of the two Grays is ranked as the 24th-best player in the country, best linebacker and second-best player in New Jersey in the 2028 class, per the 247Sports composite. He's a five-star linebacker.
Washington has gotten involved in the recruitment of several blue chip prospects in the opening stages of the '28 recruiting cycle, and a commitment from Chaz Gray could pave the way to land Tahj Gray.
Currently, Penn State and Notre Dame are the leading candidates to land the younger of the two brothers, per Rivals.com's prediction model.
