The Washington Huskies men's basketball team are days out of from the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
And Washington will have nowhere to go but up compared to last season.
In its first season in the Big Ten conference and first year under head coach Danny Sprinkle, the Huskies went 13-18 overall and 4-16 in the conference.
In the offseason, Sprinkle and the rest of the coaching staff completely overhauled the roster.
Thirteen of the 15 members on this upcoming season's roster are new to the team. They're either transfers or incoming freshmen.
Sophomore guard Zoom Diallo and graduate center Franck Kepnang are the two players from last year that will be returning this season.
Many of Washington's new additions to the team are backcourt players. And they, coupled with Diallo, received kind words from CBS Sports that the program took notice of.
The Huskies made a post on "X" from their official account (@UW_MBB) recognizing comments made on the team's guards:
"It's hard to fully illustrate just how improved Washington's guard play will be after the influx of (Wesley Yates III, Desmond Claude, Quimari Peterson and J.J. Mandaquit). It's a sharp mix of set-the-table guys, halfcourt isolation bucket-getters, floor-spacers and transition menaces in that group."
Yates, who was mentioned in the quote, was named to the watch list for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.
Joining that group mentioned in the quote will be the son of Washington basketball legend Brandon Roy, Brandon Roy Jr. (BJ Roy).
The Huskies, despite finishing in last place a season ago, received seven votes in the first Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll that released Oct. 13.
Washington will begin its season against Arkansas Pine-Bluff at 8 p.m. PT on Nov. 3 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
