On the heels of four-star Blake Roskopf decommitting, the Huskies have reportedly remained in contact with Arizona Wildcats commit Caden Jones.
The Washington Huskies football team has had bad luck on recruiting trail the last month-and-a-half.
The Huskies bad fortunes started Oct. 1, when five-star Class of 2028 edge rusher Jalanie George announced he had committed to the Wisconsin Badgers. UW was thought to be the favorites to land the Desert Edge High School defensive end but the Badgers were able to swoop in at the 11th hour and flipped George's priority destination.
In the last week, those recruiting losses have continued. Four-star Class of 2027 wide receiver Dontay Tyson Jr. flipped his commitment from Washington to Wisconsin last week.
George's teammate at Desert Edge High School, four-star Class of '27 quarterback Blake Roskopf, decommitted from UW. The North Carolina Tar Heels are reported to be the favorites to be the signal-caller's new destination.
Roskopf was the only quarterback tied to UW beyond those already on the roster. He ranked as the 177th-best overall player, 14th-best quarterback and fourth-best player in Arizona in his class, per the 247Sports composite.
The Huskies' quarterback room is currently comprised of third-years Elijah Brown and Demond Williams Jr., second-years Kini McMillan and Dash Beierly and first-year Derek Zammmit.
With Roskopf no longer in the team's future plans, Washington has kicked the tires on a previous quarterback target that's currently committed to a program in the Big 12.
The Huskies were one of three finalists for three-star quarterback Caden Jones. The two-sport athlete opted to commit to the Arizona Wildcats, where his older brother plays, over Washington and his other finalist, the Baylor Bears.
According to an article from Rivals.com reporter Adam Gorney, the Huskies and Bears have remained in contact with Jones despite his commitment to the Wildcats. UW even "tipped Jones off" to the fact Roskopf was decommitting.
"They called me and told me before the news came out," Jones said in the article. "I’ve had a good relationship with them throughout my recruiting process and they wanted to let me know I’m still on their board."
Based on the report, Jones was told by Washington's coaching staff that the program's plans on his official visit that the program's plans were to have two quarterbacks in his class. With Roskopf's decommitment, those plans may have changed.
Jones also reaffirmed that he's "locked" in to Arizona, but also said "something could always happen."
Jones, listed at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, ranks as the 631st best overall player, 36th-best quarterback and 49th-best player in California, per the 247Sports composite. He attends Crean Lutheran in Irvine, Calif., and also plays boy's basketball. In addition to his scholarship offer from the football team, UW men's basketball head coach Danny Sprinkle also extended an offer to Jones.
