Washington Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. Returning to Team in 2026 cover image

The sophomore signal-caller agreed to a new deal to return to the program next season

The Washington Huskies will have many starting and backup players depart the program via the transfer portal.

The Huskies have 13 players either reported or confirmed to enter the transfer portal, which takes place from Jan. 2-16.

Luckily for Washington, it won't be looking for a starting quarterback in 2026.

According to a report on "X" from ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, sophomore quarterback Demond Williams Jr. has agreed to a new deal to return to the Huskies next season.

Williams played his first full season as a starting signal-caller this past season and made an immediate impression.

MORE HUSKIES STORIES:

In his true freshman season in 2024, Williams appeared in all 13 games but started just two while sitting behind Will Rogers. He started the final two games of that season against No. 1 Oregon and in the Sun Bowl against Louisville.

This year, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound quarterback completed 69.5% of his passes for 3,065 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Williams also rushed 143 times for 611 yards (4.3 yards a carry) and six touchdowns.

Williams' 3,677 yards were the most in the Big Ten this past season. He set the program record with 538 yards in a single game in the Dawgs' 38-19 win against Rutgers on Oct. 15.

The Chandler, Ariz., native was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice this past season and helped guide Washington to a 9-4 overall record, a three-win improvement from the program's first year under head coach Jedd Fisch.

Williams was named the team's Most Valuable Player at the program's awards banquet and was named All-Big Ten honorable mention.

Williams was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 and ranked as the 19th-best quarterback in the country according to 247Sports.

Williams originally committed to his native Arizona among offers from teams like Arkansas, Auburn, BYU, Oregon, Ole Miss and others.

The signal caller enrolled in Arizona the spring semester Jan. 10, 2024, but entered the transfer portal and followed Fisch to the Huskies after he was hired away from the Wildcats. Williams received an offer from Washington under previous head coach Kalen DeBoer.

The Huskies will see an exodus of offensive talent in the transfer portal and NFL Draft.

Starting running back Jonah Coleman and leading wide receiver Denzel Boston will both enter the 2026 NFL Draft.

Sophomore running back Adam Mohammed, who was expected to start for the team in place of Coleman in 2026, will also enter the portal. Freshman wide receiver Raiden Vines-Bright, who was expected to get more opportunities with Boston gone, will also depart the program.

With Williams returning to the fold, Washington will be able to better-navigate the changes to the offense next season.
