
The No. 25 Washington Huskies women's basketball team is putting together one of the program's most promising seasons in years.
Entering Jan. 24, the Huskies are 15-4 overall this year, 5-3 in Big Ten competition, are third in the conference and on a three-game win streak.
Washington will have an opportunity to cement its trip to the NCAA Tournament in the final month of the regular season.
The Huskies' next four games features two showdowns against ranked opponents. Washington will play Rutgers on the road Jan. 25 in New Jersey, No. 15 Maryland on Jan. 28 on the road in College Park, Md., will play Illinois at home Feb. 1 and No. 12 Ohio State at home Feb. 5.
Although it's not one of the scheduled top 25 contests, the game against the Fighting Illini on Feb. 1 will be a special one, as the university will be honoring the most successful team in program history.
The Huskies will honor the 10th anniversary of the women's basketball team that advanced all the way to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament when the game takes place at 3 p.m. PT.
The players being honored who were on the team are forward/centers Chantel Osahor, Mathilde Gilling and Kate Collier; center Deja Strother; forwards Hannah Johnson and Talia Walton; guard/forward Heather Corral and guards Kelsey Plum, Kelli Kingma, Alexus Atchley, Brianna Ruiz, Jenna Moser and Mackenzie Wieburg.
The coaches being honored are head coach Mike Neighbors, assistants Fred Castro and Morgan Valley, director of player development Jackie Nered and director of basketball administration Luara Freimuth.
The same day of the anniversary coincides with National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The current Dawgs team will have a pregame multi-sports clinic in the basketball practice facility from 1-2:15 p.m. PT.
The 2016 Washington team is the only one in program history to advance to the Final Four.
The Huskies finished the season with a 26-11 overall record, including an 11-7 mark in the Pac-12.
Washington entered the NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid and fifth in the Pac-12 behind No. 6 Oregon State, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 Stanford and No. 10 UCLA.
The Huskies run to the Final Four included wins against Penn State, No. 5 Maryland, No. 12 Kentucky and No. 13 Stanford. UW's season ended in an 80-59 result against No. 14 Syracuse.
