Hannes Steinbach, a first-year forward recruited out of Germany dominated the Rebels on Sunday

The college basketball season is on the horizon and the Washington Huskies men's basketball program has already made a solid first impression.

The Huskies had an exhibition game against the UNLV Rebels on Sunday.

Washington beat the Mountain West-residing UNLV 77-62 at Alaska Airlines in Seattle.

Sunday was the first display of an almost completely retooled Huskies roster. In the team's second year under Danny Sprinkle, only sophomore guard Zoom Diallo and graduate center Franck Kepnang returned from 2024-25.

One of the new players on the roster this year is freshman power forward Hannes Steinbach, an international recruit out of Germany.

Steinbach and freshman guard JJ Mandaquit led Washington with 35 minutes on the floor each.

Steinbach posted a double-double. He had a game-high 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the floor (2-for-6 from the free throw line) and pulled in a game-high 16 rebounds. Eight of his boards came on the offensive end and he grabbed eight rebounds on defense. He also registered a block and had two steals.

Mandaquit orchestrated a lot of the plays Steinbach finished off.

Mandaquit had a game-high 12 assists and nine points on 4-for-9 shooting.

Diablo didn't receive playing time in the exhibition game. The Huskies' only other returning player, Kepnang, played 18 minutes. He had six points on 3-for-4 shooting. He brought in five rebounds, had an assist and had two steals.

Due to the new construction of the roster, the depth chart on the 15-man roster will be something to closely monitor in the weeks leading up to the season opener and the early stages of the season.

Washington will begin its regular season against Arkansas Pine-Bluff at a to-be-determined time Nov. 3 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
