Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay admitted that the team looked into trading their star receiver.

The Los Angeles Rams were one loss in the NFC Championship game away from the Super Bowl, and that close of a call often leads to organizations running it back with the majority of their stars. However, Rams head coach Sean McVay dropped a bit of a bombshell at the league meetings on Monday that they were planning to do perhaps the opposite, revealing that they explored the trade market for wide receiver Davante Adams. However, they ultimately decided to end those talks, noting that it wasn’t best for the team to part with Adams.

It was a surprising reveal, as that would have led to a major void for the team’s pass catchers. Adams signed a two-year deal with Los Angeles in March of 2024. And while he missed three games in the 2025 season, Adams still led the league in receiving scores. Now, McVay also indicated that he had spoken with the receiver about those possible trade talks and that he understands the business aspect of why they explored them. The news also comes after there was a lawsuit filed against their other star receiver, Puka Nacua – who is also eligible for an extension – which McVay also addressed, mainly saying that they’re waiting for all the information at this point. It could also imply that the Rams are planning to go with a skill player with their No. 13 overall pick.

Here is the full story from Rams Roundtable writer James Brizuela on McVay’s surprising admission and what it could mean for the team’s plans at wide receiver.

There have been several young pass catchers that Los Angeles has been linked to in mock drafts with their top 20 selection, and they would all be a complement alongside Nacua, and at this point, Adams who will hope that his health won’t be a factor next season. The 33-year-old had a lingering hamstring issue that caused him to miss those games, and health is always a factor when determining the future with a player.
