The reigning Super Bowl champions struggled to hire an offensive coordinator, but the Philadelphia Eagles finally found their guy.

The Philadelphia Eagles had trouble finding a replacement for former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who they parted ways with this offseason following their Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL playoffs. They had multiple candidates take jobs elsewhere or withdraw their names, making for a longer two-week search than perhaps anticipated. However, the Eagles found their guy on Thursday, and are hiring Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator

Mannion has only been a coach in the NFL ranks for two years and was an active player in the league as recent as 2023 after a nine-year playing career. The former Oregon State quarterback broke into the league as an offensive assistant for the Packers in 2024 and was promoted to QB coach ahead of this past season. Philadelphia is hoping that, despite a lack of experience, the rising star and former quarterback will be the right one to work and get the most out quarterback Jalen Hurts and a talented roster on offense.

Here is the full story from Eagles Roundtable writer Ashish Mathur on the hire and what Mannion will look to retool from last season.

It’s a marked switch from Philadelphia’s strategy that began targeting experienced playcallers, especially after first-year playcaller Patullo struggled in Kellen Moore’s place. Despite touting the most expensive offense in the NFL, the Eagles were 19th in points per game and offensive efficiency, and 18th in rush yards per game. It’s not clear whether they’ll give those playcalling duties to such a green coordinator, but they hope that the fifth coordinator for Hurts in his NFL starter career is the right one.
