The disgruntled wide receiver sparked a social media firestorm by mocking his coach’s temperament, fueling a bitter contract standoff that has former NFL stars questioning his professional future.
Get your popcorn ready. San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is once again going off on the 49ers' organization. This time, he's going after his former coach, Kyle Shanahan.
There are not many players current or former who have any issue with Kyle Shanahan, though it's certainly possible Aiyuk is not the first. But Aiyuk is widely viewed as the one in the wrong in his absence from the team over the last year. Even former players are coming out in opposition to his approach to his injury rehab.
In a recent post, Aiyuk described his former coach Shanahan as someone with a "temperament of a toddler." Aiyuk does not appear to see the irony in his description of Shanahan.
Aiyuk continued, "We is not cool. We won't be cool, and I will never be stepping in that building except on Oct. 19."
The former 49ers receiver is not happy with his contract guarantees being voided. He's not happy with the communication he's received from head coach Kyle Shanahan or general manager John Lynch. But he's not coming to the facility, and the overwhelming sentiment around the league is that he's not fulfilling his contract.
Several NFL players have spoken out on Aiyuk's antics. George Kittle is at a loss for an explanation for why he is not with the Niners. Former Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh suggests that Aiyuk is at risk of talking himself out of the NFL.
Former star NFL defensive back T.J. Ward suggests the Commanders should not add him. Richard Sherman is not on the Brandon Aiyuk bandwagon either.
Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy seems to be among the few speaking out in defense of Aiyuk's approach. The majority of buzz seems to be taking the 49ers side, at least the most publicized buzz we are seeing.

Stan Szeto-Imagn ImagesSo, does Kyle Shanahan have the temperament of a toddler? That does not check out, though it's certainly possible he has sounded off on Aiyuk's absence from the team. The individual with the questionable temperament is not Shanahan.
It's safe to say that Aiyuk will not be suiting up for the Niners barring a remarkable change of heart. Such a change seems highly improbable. Then again, it does not seem the Niners are all that willing to send Aiyuk to the Commanders like the wide receiver appears to want to do.
We will continue to monitor the Aiyuk situation as it unfolds.
