The Chicago Bears have signed 11 players to their practice squad. Here is what stands out about those additions to Ben Johnson's roster.

For NFL fans who need to know everything about their respective team's roster heading into the 2026 regular season, there has been a lot of refreshing on the X app today.

All 32 NFL teams finalized their initial 53-man rosters on Sunday at 5 p.m. CT, resulting in hundreds of players being released. The cutdowns sparked plenty of reports as waived players either returned to their team's practice squad or signed with new organizations.

The NFL posted each team's transactions. Here are the 11 players the Bears signed to the practice squad.

  • Salvon Ahmed, RB, Washington
  • Caden Barnett, G, Wyoming
  • Stephen Carlson, TE, Princeton
  • Marcus Davenport, DE, Texas-San Antonio
  • Kaden Davis, WR, Northwest Missouri State
  • Kyle Hergel, G, Boston College
  • Wayne Matthews, LB, Michigan State
  • Scott Miller, WR, Bowling Green
  • Deantre Prince, DB, Mississippi
  • J.P. Richardson, WR, Texas Christian
  • Marlen Sewell, DB, Vanderbilt

All 11 players were with the Chicago Bears before they were released.

No surprise seeing Davis back on the Bears' roster. He was someone that had a legit shot of making the active roster with his steady play throughout the summer, but he will gain valuable experience being a part of this team and continuing to develop under head coach Ben Johnson.

Ahmed is back on the team after being released. He had a productive training camp and put his playmaking skills on full display in the preseason win over the Cleveland Browns, finishing with 72 total yards and a touchdown. Given the importance of the running back position in Johnson's offense, Ahmed was bound to return to the roster.

In the 53-man roster takeaways article, I wrote about Davenport returning to the team. He never practiced when the team acquired him, but he has familiarity with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. That's worth exploring for a Bears team that could use all the pass rush help they can get.

Barnett is another player that made sense to bring back. He's physical and plays the brand of football that resonates with Coach Johnson. He also showed that he can get out in space and make a block in the open field. Watch No. 76 on Ahmed's touchdown reception against the Browns.

NFL practice squads allow a maximum of 16 players, meaning there are still five spots to fill. Those additions will be announced at some point tomorrow, but there are have reports that the Bears are looking to add Minnesota Vikings running back Zavion Scott

Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles are scheduled to speak to the media tomorrow at Halas Hall.
