The Chicago Bears released Saturday's injury report ahead of their Eagles matchup. Caleb Williams is out, while Tyson Bagent is questionable.
The Chicago Bears still don't know who will be starting against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, but the team's latest injury report provided some clarification.
Quarterback Caleb Williams was officially ruled out with the hamstring injury he sustained in the Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Although Williams is out, Bears head coach Ben Johnson expressed optimism in Williams' recovery earlier in the week.
"This guy’s a little bit different than the average human being," Johnson said. "I said that last night. I’ll double down on that. He gets back — he has in the past, a lot faster than what people can anticipate. I’m not putting a timeline on this. We’re going to say week-to-week. He’s going to attack this with everything that he knows. He’s got a great team around him, both in this building and outside this building, and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent is officially listed as questionable after being a full participant in Saturday's practice. Bagent is still in the NFL's concussion protocol.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, "Bagent was not back at Halas Hall until Friday as he progressed through the early phases of the NFL's five-phase protocol. He participated in meetings on Friday and was able to practice Saturday."
The Bears will monitor Bagent's status as the week progresses with the hope the Bears' quarterback makes his first NFL start since the 2023 season. If he doesn't clear concussion protocol, Case Keenum will make his first career start since Christmas Eve of the 2024 season.
Until Bagent's status for the game is finalized, the Bears have to evaluate everything, practice snaps included, to help determine who will start for Monday's game.
“There's a different skill set, obviously," Johnson said. "One guy's a little bit more mobile than the other, and yet both are very cerebral players. I know they'll be mentally prepared for the game, and we'll see what it looks like, but there's a reason why Tyson was the backup as we ended camp, and we felt good about who he is as a player and what he can bring to the table with this offense. And so, we'd be excited to get him out there as well. So, I think we’ve got a lot of good choices. We'll come together as a staff and make sure we're all on the same page and go from there.”
