The Chicago Bears will travel to Lumen Field to face the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Check out this in-depth preview, featuring key matchups and a Week 8 score prediction
We've finally made it to the Monday night matchup between the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks.
With the Bears sending two first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-rounder to the Tenneseee Titans in exchange for star interior defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick, general manage Ryan Poles told the leage the Bears are ready to compete for a Super Bowl right now. That message will be expressed with a win over the reigning Super Bowl champions at Lumen Field.
Simmons will play in the Week 8 matchup, but head coach Ben Johnson mentioned it won't be quite as high as his 86.7% average snaps that he played in Tennessee. The Bears will take any and all snaps they can get from Simmons to help stop quarterback Sam Darnold from completing passes to the NFL's leading receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Here is everything you need to know about this Monday night game between the Bears and Seahawks at Lumen Field.
Matchup to Watch
I feel like everyone is expecting to see Jaxon Smith-Njigba here against any and maybe all of the Bears’ defensive backs, and, honestly, that would make a lot of sense. Stopping or limiting Smith-Njigba will take an entire team effort and can't simply fall on one player, especially cornerback Jaylon Johnson with how he has been performing this season.
The matchup I'm curious to watch is how Johnson game plans for versatile defensive back Nick Emmanwori. The 6-foot-3, 227-pound safety will line up all over the field, logging snaps in the slot (36%), linebacker (34%) and edge (27%).
According to Pro Football Focus, he has 22 total tackles, two sacks and 11 total pressures this season despite missing the first game of the season and only playing xx snaps in Week 2.
If Emmanwori isn’t properly accounted for on each snap, he can easily blow up runs in the backfield and apply pressure off the edge on Caleb Williams.
X-Factor
The Bears’ have the No. 1 rushing attack in the NFL, but it hasn't been the same since Kyle Monangai has been sidelined because of a thumb and turf toe injury. In the three games Monangai has missed, the Bears have averaged 98.3 yards per game after averaging 196.3 yards per game in the first four weeks.
Monangai will miss his fourth-straight game, leaving the Bears to rely heavily on D'Andre Swift. Since his 124-yard, three-touchdown performance in Week 1 over the Panthers, the veteran running back hasn't reached 85 yards rushing and has just four rushing touchdowns and two lost fumbles in his last six games played.
Seattle has one of the best defenses in the league at stopping the run, and head coach Mike Macdonald's unit limits opposing rushing attacks without stacking the box. The Seahawks are last in the NFL utilizing eight or more defenders in the box (8.3% of snaps).
Game Prediction
The anticipation for this game has been building since the Bears knocked off the defending AFC champions on Thursday Night Football. That excitement has only intensified with the addition of Simmons.
Seattle's 4-3 record doesn't accurately describe how dangerous this team is on both sides of the ball. The Seahawks have lost their three games by a total of eight points. They have also been without their top running backs, Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price for most of the year, and both will be back for tonight's game.
Despite all the start power that will be at Lumen Field on Monday night, Caleb Williams needs to outperform everyone. And he possesses the talent to do just that. Williams continues to prove he is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL with a memorable performance against one of the league’s top defenses, and Chicago does just enough to contain Jaxon Smith-Njigba from taking over this game.
Bears 33, Seahawks 30
