Driven by Super Bowl ambitions, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is prioritizing pinpoint accuracy among some of his goals for the 2026 NFL season.
Caleb Williams wants to win Super Bowls in Chicago.
At Thursday's press conference, Coach Ben Johnson noted that the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback expressed those goals during their initial conversation.
Fast forward to now and nothing has changed.
"He's been very clear and consistent with that message over the last year and a half that I've gotten to know him," Johnson said. "So in order to do that – but that's what we're pursuing. His portion of that is to be the best leader that this team can get from the quarterback position, excel this offense to the next level, and be a good supportive teammate throughout the whole thing. I think he continues to make significant strides and I’m very happy with where he is at.”
One area of Williams' game that has been under the microscope since Johnson became the head coach in 2025 is the quarterback's accuracy and completion %.
The Bears have dialogue every single day about Williams' ball placement and even have a lettered grading system in place to evaluate the third-year quarterback's accuracy.
"It's something that he's taken to heart," Johnson said. "I think he's critical of himself. It's something that you want to see from individual drill work to carry over to routes on air, to the team settings as well. You're far from a finished product, it's always a challenge for us. It doesn't matter if you're a rookie or you're going into year 10, I think it's always a big piece of the quarterback equation.”
Given how seriously Williams approach his job, it's no surprise that completion % is on the forefront of his mind and of the ways he wants to level up his play this season.
“For me it's just get the completion percentage up," Williams said. "Keep the offense on the field more. Score as many points as possible. Be the highest scoring offense. That's part of my part in the team, going out there orchestrating it. Then being able to go out there and score, whether it's handoffs or passes, whatever. That doesn't matter. It's just being able to put up as many points as possible to help our team win as many games as possible. Then keeping the turnover rate low.”
The Bears finished as the No. 9 scoring offense in 2025, so there is room for improvement. Chicago only committed 11 giveaways last season, finishing first in the league. That's something the Bears' offense would like to continue as the team heads into its second year in Johnson's scheme.
If Williams improves his accuracy and completion %, then there should be a domino effect that improves the scoring, team success and limiting turnovers. Something as simply as being more conscious of his ball placement has helped improve Williams in that area of his game.
"I think that's one of the biggest things," Williams said. "The more emphasis the more conscious you are of something, typically when those two things are at hand you typically get better at something.”
Before Williams and Johnson can lead the Bears to Super Bowls, the two will work on the offense's passing efficiency. They'll have to take it one completion at a time to get there.
