Before the Ben Johnson era, the Chicago Bears had multiple head coaches under former General Manager Ryan Pace from 2015-2021.
The Atlanta Falcons recently fired Pace, but one of the Bears' head coaches during his tenure landed a new job on Friday. Pace was the Vice President of Football Operations and Player Personnel with the Falcons.
During Pace's time in Chicago, the Bears had John Fox and Matt Nagy, both of whom were eventually fired. For Fox, he has now landed a new gig with the Buffalo Bills as a Senior Assistant Coach, via ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Fox was with the Bears from 2015-17. He was unable to reach the postseason in the three years he spent with the franchise. His best finish was 6-10 in 2015.
After things ended poorly in Chicago, Fox went from the sidelines to the booth. He became a studio analyst for NFL Live in 2018. It wasn't until 2022 that he would make his return to coaching as an assistant.
Fox joined Frank Reich's staff at the Indianapolis Colts as a Senior Defensive Analyst. After one season with the Colts, he went to coach the same role with the Detroit Lions in 2023.
Another one of Chicago's former head coaches, Matt Nagy, has also landed a new gig. Nagy was with the Kansas City Chiefs as their offensive coordinator for the last three seasons, but left to pursue head coaching opportunities.
Nagy was the Bears' HC from 2018-2021 and led the Bears to the playoffs twice. His best season was in 2018, when the Bears went 12-4. Nagy then had two 8-8 seasons before being fired following a 6-11 finish in 2021.
He will be the OC for the New York Giants on John Harbaugh's staff in 2026.
After Nagy, Chicago had Matt Eberflus as HC for the next four seasons under current GM Ryan Poles.
Like Fox, he also didn't make the postseason and was fired halfway through the 2024 campaign after the coaching debacle in the Thanksgiving Day game versus the Lions.
At the end of the day, all roads led to Johnson, who has the Bears in a much better place. Chicago reached the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and is bringing that momentum into 2026.
After going through the Fox, Nagy and Eberflus eras, Chicago is in good hands with GM Poles and Johnson at the helm.
