Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has lofty goals for the 2026 season, and there is a direct correlation between how he can achieve one of them.

When Caleb Williams shared his goals for the 2026 season during last Thursday's media availability, he made sure to aim high.

The Chicago Bears' quarterback mentioned wanting to raise his completion percentage and also to "score as many points as possible. Be the highest scoring offense. That's part of my part in the team, going out there orchestrating it. Then being able to go out there and score, whether it's handoffs or passes, whatever. That doesn't matter. It's just being able to put up as many points as possible to help our team win as many games as possible. Then keeping the turnover rate low.”

In the first year with coach Ben Johnson as Williams' play caller, the Bears finished No. 9 in scoring (25.9 points per game). Williams recently told Jason and Travis Kelce on the "New Heights" podcast that it took until after the second game against the Minnesota Vikings last season to get on the same page with Johnson.

The Bears played the Vikings in Week 11 on Nov. 16.

Despite not being perfectly in sync with his head coach, Williams and the Bears' offense still managed plenty of positives. With an entire season in Johnson's offense, the expectation should be a much faster start offensively.

A good indication the Bears are heading in the right direction to become the highest scoring offense this upcoming season is to track the team's big plays. According to radar360, those are rushes that went for 10+ yards and receptions that went for 20+ yards.

The Bears finished with the second-most big plays last season (127). Only the Buffalo Bills had more (129).

Teams that finished in the top 10 in big plays were also among the highest-scoring offenses in the league.

  1. Los Angeles Rams (518 Points), 125 Big Plays (No.3)
  2. New England Patriots (490 Points), 123 Big Plays (No. 4)
  3. Seattle Seahawks (483 Points), 112 Big Plays (No. 7)
  4. Buffalo Bills (481 Points), 129 Big Plays (No. 1)
  5. Detroit Lions (481 Points), 110 Big Plays (No. 9)
  6. Jacksonville Jaguars (474 Points), 105 Big Plays (No. 10)
  7. Dallas Cowboys (471 Points), 102 Big Plays (No. 12)
  8. Indianapolis Colts (466 Points), 91 Big Plays (Tied for No. 22)
  9. Chicago Bears (441 Points), 127 Big Plays (No. 2)
  10. San Francisco 49ers (437 Points), 91 Big Plays (Tied for No. 17)

The only three outliers from last season who were top 10 in points scored but didn't finish in the top 10 in big plays were the Cowboys, Colts and 49ers.

Something that Williams also mentioned to the Kelce brothers is how Johnson is "always trying to find more explosives."

With those big plays on the forefront of Johnson's mind and Williams operating the Bears' scheme, the team should be primed for another season filled with game-changing plays in an offense that can score at any moment's notice.
