Green Bay elevates former Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. This surprising promotion brings a familiar face back to the NFC North, but not for Chicago.
The Chicago Bears organization is in a much better spot than it was years ago.
The Bears made a home-run hire with Ben Johnson, and he took the franchise to heights it hadn't seen since 2018. Chicago went 11-6 in the regular season to clinch the No. 2 seed in the NFC and win the NFC North.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The Bears lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round, 20-17, in overtime.
Did the loss hurt? Absolutely.
However, fans have something they haven't had in a long time in the Windy City: hope for the Bears.
General Manager Ryan Poles and Johnson have turned things around in Chicago in just the head coach's first year with the team. The Bears have an exciting group of players, including Caleb Williams, Kyle Monangai, Colston Loveland, and others, to look forward to.
It's crazy how different things were not too long ago in Chicago.
During Matt Eberflus' tenure, 7-10 was the best finish in 2023. Back then, the quarterback situation in Chicago was not the best. The Bears had Justin Fields, who regularly put up what appeared to be decent numbers, but never played winning football.
Fans were reminded of that this past season, when the New York Jets benched him. Now, the man who helped coach him in Chicago, Luke Getsy, was just promoted by the Green Bay Packers.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Packers are promoting Getsy from Senior Offensive Assistant to quarterbacks coach. Getsy is in the midst of his third stint with the Packers organization.
Getsy was the OC in Chicago from 2022-23. During his tenure, the Bears consistently ranked in the bottom half of the league in passing yards, points, and rushing yards per game.
Getsy replaces Sean Mannion as the QB coach in Green Bay. Mannion left for the Philadelphia Eagles' OC job.
He lasted two seasons with the Bears before being fired in January of 2024. Eberflus was later fired in the 2024 season. If you're bad enough at your job that Eberflus knows a change is needed, that's not a great look.
The Packers have had some assistant coaching turnover this offseason. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley left to become the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
Hafley's replacement at DC is former Arizona Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon. Gannon's defense at the Cardinals this past season ranked 27th in yards allowed and 29th in points allowed per game.
Now, the Packers are going to have the man credited with ruining Fields as their OC, with Bears fans just ready to get out the popcorn and watch the beautiful disaster unfold.
After losing both their OC and DC, the Packers are making some questionable hires, and Bears fans love to see it.
