Chicago’s postseason hopes hinge on pivotal game-time decisions. As the Falcons loom, the Bears wait to see if their franchise quarterback and star cornerback can finally return.

Chicago Bears fans have been anxiously awaiting news on the status of Caleb Williams and Kyler Gordon.

Williams has been out of the lineup since Week 2 while recovering from a hamstring injury. Without him, the Bears managed fairly well.

First, it was Case Keenum who lined up under center against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Keenum helped lead the Bears to a dominant 27-7 win.

He finished with 247 passing yards and three total touchdowns.

Tyson Bagent started against the New York Jets. He threw an early interception but finished with 268 passing yards in a 23-12 win.

As for Gordon, he's been on the PUP list with a soft tissue injury. He's played in five games since the three-year, $40 million extension he was given last season. His 21-day practice window has been opened, but the Bears still need to elevate him to the active roster.

The Bears have sorely missed both Williams and Gordon in the lineup. On Friday, we found out their status for the Week 6 game versus the Atlanta Falcons.

The Bears will be without T.J. Edwards (hamstring), Keyshaun Elliott (quadricep), Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) and Dayo Odeyingbo (quadricep). The only players listed as questionable were Williams (hamstring), Tyrique Stevenson (hip) and Gordon (calf).

Grady Jarrett and Joe Thuney were on the injury report as well, but didn't carry an injury designation.

Unfortunately, it looks like both Williams and Gordon are going to be game-time decisions.

Head coach Ben Johnson shared his thoughts on Williams. He didn't commit to naming him the starting quarterback outright. He did seem hopeful nonetheless.

"I'm hopeful we'll have more clarity at the end of the day today," Johnson said. "He looked good yesterday for one practice, but we got to be able to stack a few back-to-back. He got some good work in on Wednesday; it's part of the plan, and he's on track right now."

On Gordon, Johnson was also keeping things close to the vest. He noted that whether it's this weekend or next, he's excited about the possibility of Gordon helping the team.

"He's done a great job taking everything we've assigned him so far," Johnson said. "I feel good about him, whether that's this week or next week, being able to help us out. ... I'm encouraged with what I've seen so far."

Getting both of those players back this weekend would be a major plus for the Bears. We saw how much the offense and defense struggled in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers.

The Bears couldn't do much right in the game. The Packers focused on stopping the running game.

They did just that, and the Bears' offense couldn't operate as smoothly. The Packers limited the Bears to under 100 rushing yards for the first time this season.

Questions arose about whether Michael Penix Jr. would start for the Falcons against the Bears. He sustained an injury just before overtime in the last game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Penix was cleared by the Falcons and is expected to start.

Hopefully, the Bears will have similar news regarding Williams and Gordon. Having both of them on the field will undoubtedly elevate the offense and defense.

For now, we await more good news about Williams and Gordon returning. It sounds like both might suit up for Chicago at Soldier Field this Sunday.
