Chicago looks to bolster its elite rushing attack by adding the veteran speedster, providing depth and potential competition for the rotation behind standouts D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai.

The Chicago Bears had one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL last season.

D'Andre Swift and rookie Kyle Monangai led the charge, as the Bears had the third-most rushing yards per game (144.5). Swift finished with 1,000 yards in a season for the first time since 2023, back when he was still with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Monangai had 783 rushing yards and five touchdowns as a rookie. It looks like his future is very bright in the Windy City.

After the rookie minicamp, the Bears' running back room contains Swift, Monangai, Roschon Johnson, Brittain Brown, Bennett Coleman, and Deon Hankins.

As of Wednesday night, that room got a little bigger.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that Chicago was signing former Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts running back Salvon Ahmed.

Ahmed played college football at Washington, where he recorded 2,016 career rushing yards and 21 touchdowns from 2017-19. He then went undrafted in 2020 and signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

He was waived in August of that year and joined the Miami Dolphins. He was waived during final roster cuts and then signed to the Dolphins' practice squad.

Ahmed was signed to the active roster later that season.

He was never really able to find his footing in the running back rotation with Miami. He had 319 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 2020, but his production dropped in the years that followed.

He re-signed with the Dolphins in 2024 but was then placed on the active/non-football injury or illness list. The Dolphins opted to waive him in August of 2024.

He then joined the Denver Broncos' practice squad in October of that year and was waived after about a week with the team.

Ahmed joined the Colts' practice squad last season. However, he suffered an unfortunate season-ending ankle injury in training camp.

It's tough to say where Ahmed will fit in with the Bears, given that the rotation is already set with Swift, Monangai and Johnson. There could be an opportunity for Ahmed to work his way in after the injuries that Johnson dealt with last season.

Johnson only played in seven games in 2025 due to injury, leaving the door open for a veteran player like Ahmed to potentially challenge him for the No. 3 spot in the rotation.

Swift and Monangai were great last season, but outside of them, there wasn't a lot of production. Perhaps Ahmed can come in and revive his NFL career with the Bears.
