Despite trade rumors swirling, the winless Chargers are reportedly refusing to engage in talks for Khalil Mack, stalling Chicago’s hopes for a veteran reunion at edge rusher.

The Chicago Bears already made one massive trade before the Nov. 10 deadline.

The team sent three draft picks to the Tennessee Titans for Jeffery Simmons, who is widely regarded as the best defensive tackle in football. Even defensive coordinator Dennis Allen couldn't contain his excitement about the trade.

There's still another player out there that Bears fans would love to see back in the Windy City. Khalil Mack has spent the last five seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers have yet to win a game this season, and there could be no better time than now for a Bears reunion. Ian Rapoport fired up the rumor mill by stating that Mack would be a great solution to the Bears' need at edge rusher.

Then on Friday, a recent development came out that Bears fans aren't going to like. The Athletic's Jonathan Jones shared what he's hearing about the NFL trade deadline, and it doesn't look good for the Bears or any team interested in Mack, for that matter.

Jones revealed that the Chargers are holding on to Mack and are determined not to trade him at this time.

"The Chargers have confounded teams by not engaging in trade talks," Jones said. "The Bolts are 0-6 but are telling teams Khalil Mack isn’t available. It’s hard to envision that remaining the case over the next 10 days."

It seems that the Mack reunion may have to wait. The Bears have been down this road before.

This offseason, Mack was set to become an unrestricted free agent. The Bears didn't act quickly enough, and he ended up returning to the Chargers on a one-year deal worth $18 million.

This isn't the end.

There's still a good chance that the Bears could sign him this upcoming offseason if the Chargers don't change their minds about making him available for a trade. He's on a one-year deal that's set to expire next year.

It's tough because the Bears have a need at edge rusher at the moment with Dayo Odeyingbo on injured reserve.

Mack's production is still there. He has three sacks, 19 total tackles and five TFLs in six games played.

For now, it looks like the Bears will have to wait to bring Mack back to the Windy City. The Bears are bringing Simmons up to speed ahead of their Monday Night Football matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

There's still a good chance that Mack can retire as a Bear. We just may have to wait a little bit longer for that to become a reality.

Bears Roundtable will provide any further updates on the Mack situation as the trade deadline approaches.

Monday night's game kicks off at 7:15 p.m. CT on CBS.
