With Montez Sweat suspended and the defensive line depleted, undrafted standout Jamree Kromah finally gets his chance to anchor the pass rush and jumpstart Chicago’s bounce-back effort.
The Chicago Bears enter Week 6 with a few players not suiting up against the Atlanta Falcons.
Caleb Williams' return is imminent, and Kyler Gordon was officially activated from the PUP list. Williams will return for the first time since Week 2, and Gordon will make his 2026 debut.
The Bears will be without Kyle Monangai, Dayo Odeyingbo, Keyshaun Elliott and T.J. Edwards.
This makes things interesting for the Bears' defensive line. The team already learned that Montez Sweat would be suspended for the next two games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.
Sweat has accounted for two sacks, seven total tackles and two TFLs. Odeyingbo has three sacks, nine total tackles and three TFLs.
The Bears are losing plenty of production with Sweat and Odeyingbo out. Chicago will need Grady Jarrett and Austin Booker to step up, but there's another player who will have the chance to prove himself this Sunday.
Jamree Kromah will likely get extended playing time this weekend. Booker is going to start. Outside of him, there's little depth on the edge.
Shemar Turner is back, then there's Daniel Hardy and Kromah.
Kromah had a solid preseason.
He recorded three sacks, nine total tackles, 10 pressures and two quarterback hits. Kromah is another undrafted free agent signing by Ryan Poles who has a chance to step into the spotlight in a big game.
The Bears need a bounce-back win after losing to the Green Bay Packers 31-7. With Williams coming back, the Bears could use a big win before divisional play picks up again in November.
Kromah went undrafted out of Rutgers and James Madison in 2024. He signed with the Bears as a UDFA, was eventually waived, and then signed to the practice squad.
Then, the New England Patriots signed him to the active roster. He was waived after a few weeks with the team.
Chicago brought Kromah back to the practice squad not long after. He was brought back in 2025 on a future/reserve contract. He didn't make the active roster last year, but was re-signed to the practice squad.
This year, that changed when he made the 53-man roster after training camp. He hasn't played in a game yet, but it looks like he's going to get his shot.
This could continue the trend of solid UDFA signings that Poles has had during his tenure as General Manager. One of his best was Tyson Bagent in 2023, who has become a reliable backup quarterback for the Bears.
There have also been Jahdae Walker, Jaylon Jones, Jack Sanborn, Theo Benedet, and others who have all made the active roster and contributed to the Bears.
Kromah has a chance to keep that trend going in Week 6 with a big game. The door is open for Kromah; it'll be up to him to kick it down.
Kickoff from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set for noon CT on Fox.
