After his “This is it” comments sparked speculation, Joe Burrow clarified his intentions and reaffirmed his commitment to Cincinnati.

Joe Burrow is always in the spotlight as the Cincinnati Bengals’ franchise quarterback. He’s praised for his play on the field and how he handles adversity, but ridiculed for team struggles and injury problems that are largely out of his control.

National media outlets like to say that Burrow wants out of Cincinnati as soon as possible, that he will leave within the next few years and that he has no intention of staying with the Bengals long term.

Recent comments from the quarterback pushed the national agenda during a press conference in the middle of August, when he said he was tired of continuously looking to next season every year because the Bengals fell short, saying, “This is it,” when talking about 2026.

Rumors flooded social media that this could be his last season with the Bengals and everything else that goes along with it, but Burrow made his intentions clear about where he stands on his future in Cincinnati.

In an exclusive interview with Bengals.com senior writer Geoff Hobson, Burrow cleared up any confusion about his future with the franchise. He began by saying he can see how people misinterpreted some of his prior comments, but he means everything he says.

“I am here for the long haul,” Burrow said. “I'm not going anywhere. I'm just trying to bring a now-or-never mentality to the day-by-day process. If you're not, what are you doing? Attack the day with a championship mindset. The rest will take care of itself.”

Burrow explained that the comments about 2026 being it were not an ultimatum suggesting he would leave Cincinnati if the Bengals didn’t win a Super Bowl. Rather, it was motivation for a team that has missed the playoffs in each of the last three seasons.

He said he is proud to be the quarterback of the Bengals and represent a city that he loves, the state of Ohio and the Brown family.

With some of the backlash and controversy coming from his recent comments, Burrow said in the interview that he wants to get better at using his words and feelings more, mentioning that he often uses his clothes or his hair to express himself. He wants to evolve in as many ways as possible to become the best person, player and leader possible.

“I’m just trying to bring to the table whatever the team needs,” Burrow said.

Members of national media outlets and followers of different teams from around the country will continue to take players out of context and push agendas that aren’t factually true. Burrow set the story straight with Hobson, and now Bengals fans can turn their attention to Week 1 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or the first stop on the road to Super Bowl LXI.
