After losing to the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills have dropped from the top spot of the NFL power rankings.
For the second straight season, the Buffalo Bills failed to defend home field against the rival New England Patriots.
Much like last season, the Bills entered the game as heavy favorites, only to have the Patriots take them down. Buffalo's offense was inconsistent again, showing some cracks for the second straight week.
Quarterback Josh Allen didn't look very sharp again, allowing the Patriots to take full advantage of the situation. With the loss, the Bills now drop to 3-1 on the year, while the Patriots move to 2-2 on the season.
Buffalo was only really dominant during the second quarter, with the Patriots playing better everywhere else. But now the Bills will move forward with the loss, looking to regroup next week.
But heading into Week 5 of the season, NFL analyst Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report put together power rankings for the league. Within them, the Bills dropped from the top spot, falling to No. 4 in the rankings.
The loss to the Patriots was tough all around, with the Bills just not looking like their normal selves. Buffalo came into the game with high expectations, while New England looked dead in the water.
But the Bills gave New England new life, which was the worst possible outcome from this early season contest. The Patriots took it to the Bills from the opening kickoff, and Buffalo just couldn't match the energy and level of desperation.
The New England offense couldn't do much of anything over the first few weeks of the NFL season, but they found a spark against the Bills. Buffalo was missing its best cornerback, but Patriots quarterback Drake Maye found his footing.
All Buffalo can do is learn from this game, figuring out how to clean up the mistakes that have plagued them over the last two weeks. While the team did win a week ago, it wasn't a pretty win, and the Patriots seemed to watch film from what the Los Angeles Chargers did.
The Bills will now get ready for a big game this coming week against the Los Angeles Rams on the road. Buffalo and Los Angeles will be playing on Monday Night Football, giving the fans a potential Super Bowl preview.
If the Bills aren't careful, the hot start that they had could easily evaporate, especially against a tough Rams team. Buffalo will look to refocus this week, cleaning up their act for the primetime game.
