Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been given an eye-opening spot in the ESPN preseason Top-100 player rankings.
As the 2026 NFL season gets going soon, the Buffalo Bills have to be one of the more interesting teams in the league.
Not only is Buffalo seen as a true Super Bowl contender, but there is also a lot of pressure on this group to find success. After years of underperforming come playoff time, Buffalo's front office made the decision to cut ties with head coach Sean McDermott.
The team promoted Joe Brady to head coach, putting more emphasis on a need to win. Being a first-time head coach could be tough for Brady, but having star quarterback Josh Allen under center tends to help everything.
Allen is seen by many as a top signal-caller in the NFL, giving the Bills a chance to win each time out. So, entering the season, it's only natural that Allen has received a high ranking in the ESPN Top-100 player rankings.
The Bills quarterback came in ranked No. 2 overall in the league, sitting just behind Los Angeles Rams star edge rusher Myles Garrett. Garrett set NFL records last season, making his landing in the top spot fairly deserved.
Allen coming in this high shows the growth he has made over his NFL career. But he's earned this praise for his play, even if it hasn't resulted in a Super Bowl title for Buffalo.
The star has finished top-five in MVP voting in each of the past four seasons, with him winning the honor in 2024. If Allen can put together another strong season, this could finally be the time that Buffalo gets over the hump.
Part of why Brady was hired is his belief in Allen, based on working together over the years. Brady called Allen the best player in football ahead of the new season.
"I know Josh Allen is the best football player in the world," Brady said.
The Bills went out to trade for star wide receiver D.J. Moore this offseason, giving Allen a true weapon to throw the ball to. Far too often, the Bills were relying on Allen to be Superman in games, and if he slipped up even a little, the team faltered.
But now Allen will need to prove himself once again this year, making this ranking justified. The Bills have the pieces to win this season, and with Allen under center, the sky is truly the limit for Buffalo entering the year.
