The Buffalo Bills are being predicted not to score a single point in Week 1 against the Houston Texans.
The 2026 season is going to test the Buffalo Bills in ways that the organization hasn't seen in a long time.
With longtime head coach Sean McDermott now gone, the Bills have a new voice and leader heading up the team. Joe Brady takes over, being promoted to the head coaching position.
While there is always some room for a new head coach to grow, the Bills don't have that luxury. This team enters the year as a Super Bowl-or-bust team, needing to get over the hump in the AFC.
With Josh Allen under center, the sky is the limit for the Bills. But there will be more pressure on him as well.
But to start the season, the schedulers didn't do Buffalo any favors, giving them the Houston Texans on the road. Houston was one of the best defenses in the NFL a year ago, and the Texans took down the Bills last season in the regular season.
Researcher Raza Umerani of NFL. com was asked to make a bold prediction for Week 1 of the new NFL season. In this, Umerani predicted that the Bills wouldn't score a single point against the Texans this week.
"Josh Allen is no stranger to Superman comparisons. In this analogy, though, the Texans are his kryptonite. In his two games against DeMeco Ryans' Houston defense, Allen is 0-2 with a 51.6 percent completion rate, 384 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He posted a 62.2 passer rating in those contests while facing 31 pressures and taking nine sacks -- eight of which came in last year's matchup. This Texans D is ready for a legendary season, and Buffalo might have some wrinkles to iron out in Joe Brady's first game as head coach, leading to Allen's first shutout since his rookie season," Umerani wrote.
If this prediction were to come true, panic would ring out around Buffalo. This is one of the bolder calls before Week 1 of the season, but the Houston defense was that good a year ago.
But in all likelihood, the Bills will score some points against the Texans. Buffalo has too explosive of an offense, even with the Texans defense being very good.
Allen should be able to get work done against Houston, but he will need to be careful against an opportunistic defensive unit. The Texans can make life tough for Allen, even with all his offensive weapons.
Buffalo will try to earn a statement win to open the season on the road, but it will be a challenge. However, the Bills seem to play at their best whenever being counted out.
