Before joining the Buffalo Bills defensive front, the Pro Bowl edge rusher interrogated opponents about the Bills' culture, seeking a championship contender to escape Miami’s early postseason exits.
In 2023, Bradley Chubb was in his second season with the Miami Dolphins, but he had an eye on an AFC East rival.
The Dolphins were coming off a loss to the Buffalo Bills in a Wild-Card Round appearance in 2022 (Chubb was traded to Miami from the Denver Broncos during the regular season). Miami would go 11-6 in 2023 before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild-Card Round.
An early postseason exit appeared to be the ceiling for Chubb in Miami, and the star defensive end was curious about other teams.
Tight end Dalton Kincaid told reporters that he remembers Chubb asking him about what it was like with the Bills during a game in the 2023 regular season.
"I remember my rookie year Bradley Chubb lining up opposing me, and he was like, 'Do you like it here in Buffalo?,'" Kincaid said, via the Bills. "And it was like the oddest question to be asked as a rookie.
"Then you flash forward, three or four years later, and he's on our team. So, I think it's pretty cool, just him to come in and just seamlessly become a leader."
Chubb, a two-time Pro-Bowl DE, signed a three-year deal with the Bills in free agency. He's excited about being on a team that has ambitions of chasing a Super Bowl.
"I had probably one 11-win season, one playoff appearance for myself," Chubb said. "Two technically, but I didn't play in one.
"It is re-energizing to get to a city, a team and an organization who has expectations of not just the first round (of playoffs), not just the second round but being in the long haul in the playoff run."
Chubb missed the 2023 postseason after suffering a torn ACL in Week 17.
Chubb is expected to be a key piece of new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard's scheme. He's coming off an 8.5 sack season in 2025, and that number could improve with the Bills.
Of course, Chubb's goal is to increase his stats in the postseason. He's made just one tackle (a sack) in the playoffs during his NFL career.
