Josh Allen believes facing Jim Leonhard's defense in training camp will better prepare the Bills' offense for the regular season.

Training camp isn't just about getting into football shape. For Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills offense, it's also about preparing for the wide variety of defensive looks they'll see once the regular season begins.

That's one reason Allen believes practicing against Jim Leonhard's new defense will benefit the offense long after training camp comes to an end.

"I think there's a lot of teams in the league that their defensive style is going to be very similar to what we're seeing right now," Allen said. "So it's good practice, you know, switching up the fronts, different pressures. You know, sometimes dropping D-line and bringing line back."

While the Bills are only a few days into camp, Allen knows the challenges are only going to increase as Leonhard continues to expand what the defense is showing.

"We haven't seen a whole lot of pressure yet," Allen said. "But I know it's coming."

That means the offense can't simply rely on talent. It has to be prepared with answers for whatever the defense throws at it.

"So at some point during the next day or two in the film room, we're going to have to talk about it and just say, what are our answers? If we see something, what's our best check to get into? So on and so forth," Allen said.

Those conversations, Allen explained, are just as valuable as the reps on the practice field. Training camp provides an opportunity to identify potential issues, study them in the meeting room and develop solutions before the games begin to count.

For an offense breaking in new personnel and continuing to evolve under head coach Joe Brady, those situations can only help.

Allen also praised the effort he's seen from Buffalo's defense through the opening days of camp.

"I think they're just flying around," Allen said. "Yeah, they're playing really well right now."

The Bills won't know exactly what opposing defenses will throw at them when the regular season opens in Houston, but Allen believes the work they're putting in against Leonhard's unit is preparing them for that uncertainty.

If the offense can continue solving problems on the practice field and in the film room throughout training camp, Allen believes it'll be better equipped to handle whatever challenges await once Week 1 arrives.
