As he gets ready to enter his fourth year in the league, the Buffalo Bills have made a decision regarding the fifth-year option for tight end Dalton Kincaid
The Buffalo Bills have made a major decision regarding the future of tight end Dalton Kincaid.
On Monday, it was confirmed by general manager and president of football operations Brandon Beane that the Bills have officially picked up the fifth-year option on Kincaid's contract.
"We have notified him and his agent that we've picked that up," Beane told members of the media at the NFL league meetings in Phoenix. "So, that secures him for the next two seasons."
With the option picked up, Kincaid will receive $8.1 million in guaranteed money in 2027. For 2026, his cap hit is $4.27 million.
After that, it'll be time to make a decision regarding Kincaid's second contract.
A first-round pick (25th overall) in 2023, Kincaid has become a somewhat reliable target for Josh Allen when he's on the field.
As a rookie, he set the Bills rookie tight end receiving record with 673 yards on 73 catches. Last year, despite missing five games, he led the Bills in touchdown receptions with five. He also added two touchdowns in two playoff games.
Oh, and he did all that while playing on a torn PCL.
That said, he has yet to take that next step to being the number one tight end Buffalo drafted him to be.
Since catching for 673 yards as a rookie, Kincaid has failed to hit 600 yards in either of the last two seasons. He also saw his share of snaps fall from a high of 63% as a rookie to 57% in 2024 and just 38% last season.
With Joe Brady now running the show as head coach, many expect that to change moving forward. Just how much it'll change, though, depends on Kincaid's ability to stay healthy and produce when on the field.
Kincaid is now scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2028. By then, the Bills will have a much clearer picture of whether he's a player worth investing more money in.
