Front office officials finalized the initial 53-man roster as a flurry of deadline cuts and tactical reserve designations reshaped the depth chart ahead of the regular season.
The Buffalo Bills have made their cuts to set the initial 53-man roster for the regular season. Just past the 6pm deadline on Sunday evening, the team revealed that it had released 21 more players. In addition, three players have been moved to various reserve lists ahead of Week 1.
Before getting into the outright releases, three players were put on specified lists.
WR Tyrell Shavers was placed on Reserve/PUP, DL Zane Durant was placed on Injured Reserve, and DL Phidarian Mathis was placed on the reserved/suspended list. Mathis is eligible to return to the team after Week 3. Whether he'll remain on the team after that will largely depend on how the defense is playing by then.
As for who was let go, many of the players released were expected. In total, 21 players were released, along with the 13 who were cut on Saturday.
The one that could catch fans off guard is CB Kani Walker. Walker was a training-camp darling for many and followed that up with a strong preseason performance. With the Bills needing depth at the bottom of the cornerback room, it seemed like he had a good chance to make the initial 53. Ultimately, however, that wasn't the case.
You can check out all 21 players who were let go below. Some are expected to be re-signed to the team's practice squad should they clear waivers.
