The Buffalo Bills have hired their new head coach in Joe Brady and the reaction, to say the least, is mixed.
In the latest episode of the Bills Roundtable Podcast, hosts Mike Straw and Anthony Moeglin talk about the Bills decision to hire from within.
Was it the right thing to do based on the candidates that were interviewed? Neither seem too sure of that. Plus, they take a look at reasons to be optimistic about Brady's hiring as well as why you could be worried.
What's Next For The Bills?
Now that Brady is officially the new head coach, the focus moves to how his staff will fill out. As a first-time head coach, there could be a desire to add a few veteran coaches to the staff to help move the team forward.
What can't happen, however, is running it back with the same staff that worked under Sean McDermott.
So, who are the options available? On offense, there are a number of names for the offensive coordinator role such as Davis Webb or Nate Scheelhaase are options. Or, if they wanted to go the veteran route, Pete Carmichael could be a possibility due to his past with Brady with the New Orleans Saints.
On the defensive side of the ball, former Bills defensive back and current Denver Broncos assistant head coach Jim Leonhard has emerged as a front runner for the defensive coordinator role. However, other names that Straw and Moeglin like are former Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.
Whomever Brady decides to add to his staff, the pressure is on from the start. The Bills claimed to have made the move at head coach due to hitting the "proverbial playoff wall". By keeping the new head coach hire in house, it only adds to that pressure to finally not only get to a Super Bowl, but win one as well.
