The Bills star stayed on the field despite a heavy hit to his knee, but postgame footage of a visible limp raises questions before Week 4.
Josh Allen finished Sunday's 24-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, but there's one thing worth watching closely as the Buffalo Bills prepare for the New England Patriots next weekend.
With roughly 9:46 remaining in the 4th quarter, Allen took a helmet or shoulder shot to his left knee. The Bills quarterback immediately showed discomfort when walking after the contact, though he remained in the game and even had another designed run on Buffalo's next possession.
UPDATE September 29: Head coach Joe Brady said that he wasn't concerned about Allen, stating that he was just a little banged up after the game. The original story continues below.
There was no indication after the game that Allen had suffered a significant injury, and the quarterback didn't mention the knee during his postgame media availability. The Bills also did not announce an injury involving Allen following the victory.
Still, Allen appeared to be favoring his left leg after the game. He was seen limping while leaving the field and leaning heavily on his right leg. Another clip shows him having discomfort while taking a step backward in the locker room.
That doesn't necessarily mean Allen suffered a serious injury. At this point, there is no confirmation of the severity of whatever he may have been dealing with, making the practice week particularly important as Buffalo gets ready to host the Patriots on Sunday.
The timing is worth monitoring given what Allen dealt with throughout the 2025 season.
Allen played through multiple injuries late last season, including a right foot injury suffered in the Week 16 win over the Cleveland Browns. He aggravated that injury in the Bills' Week 17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, with X-rays coming back negative. He also dealt with a left knee and right finger injury during Buffalo's playoff win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The injuries ultimately carried into the offseason. Allen underwent surgery on his right foot in January to repair a broken fifth metatarsal. He said afterward that the injury stemmed from an older issue that was aggravated against Cleveland, and he expected to be ready for OTAs.
That history doesn't mean Sunday's hit is connected to any previous injury. The concern here is simply that Allen took a significant shot to his left knee, visibly reacted to it, and appeared to favor the leg afterward.
Perhaps most importantly, Allen did not miss a snap against the Chargers. He remained on the field, helped Buffalo complete its comeback, and finished the afternoon with two rushing touchdowns.
But with the Bills now 3-0 and facing New England next Sunday, Allen's participation and movement during this week's practices will be something to watch.
