Unsigned and reportedly focused on his golf game, the veteran pass rusher appears content to walk away from football after a single season in Western New York.
Former Buffalo Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa might be set to call it an NFL career.
The 30-year-old has remained unsigned throughout the offseason and into the summer after spending 2025 with Buffalo. And, according to one NFL insider, he might not be too keen on playing again.
Speaking on his podcast this week, ESPN's Adam Schefter said that Bosa has likely played his last snap.
"Joey Bosa has made so much money in his career, that I think some people have wondered whether we will see him play in the NFL again," Schefter said.
"It is more likely than not that Joey Bosa has played his last NFL down. Now, again, could a situation like the 49ers come along that entices him enough to come out and play again? Yeah, absolutely. We saw it happen last year with Philip Rivers. So, you never know when a player is fully done and when he’s not done. But the fact of the matter is, I think if the Niners wanted to pair those two together, it probably would have happened already."
He added that if Bosa wanted to still play football, it "probably would have happened already."
The idea of Bosa calling it a career isn't too surprising. Earlier this spring, his brother Nick, when asked about playing together in San Francisco, said that Joey was working on his golf game, and he didn't believe he was "thinking too much about football."
Bosa signed with Buffalo on a one-year contract last season to play opposite of Gregory Rousseau. Bosa managed to stay healthy most of the season, playing in 15 of 17 regular-season games and recording five sacks and five forced fumbles. His play, however, was a tale of two seasons.
Over the first eight games, Bosa had four sacks. He had just one in the final 10 he played, including the playoffs.
Bosa hasn't made anything official about his plans for 2026 and beyond, but the longer he goes without a contract, the more likely it seems that his time in the NFL is over.
