A walking boot sidelines the second-round pick following a promising preseason score, stalling the receiver's urgent quest to prove his maturity and secure a roster spot.

He scored the first touchdown at the new Highmark Stadium, but that's no longer the topic of conversation for Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman. Instead, the focus is on what was seen at the team's open practice on Tuesday morning.

Coming off the team's preseason-opening win against Carolina, Coleman was seen wearing a walking boot on his right foot.

Following the game on Saturday, head coach Joe Brady said Coleman was banged up, but there was no specific mention of what the ailment was. He also said that he expected the third-year receiver to be ok.

Coleman had a solid showing against the Panthers last weekend, catching three passes for 17 yards and a touchdown on four targets.

It wasn't just Coleman on the sideline for Buffalo's first practice of the week. Khalil Shakir also didn't participate, while DJ Moore was on the sidelines for part of the practice before joining the team for drills.

For Coleman, this comes at a time when he's attempting to prove that he still deserves to remain on the roster. The 2024 second-round pick has had a tumultuous first two seasons with Buffalo, including being a healthy scratch for multiple games last year. While the organization has continued to speak of his talent on the field, it's his maturity off of it that has drawn criticism.

The organization has continued to publicly state its belief in the 23-year-old, but it remains up to Coleman to prove them right with his actions both on and off the field. In two seasons, Coleman has 67 receptions for 960 yards and 8 touchdowns in 26 games.

The Bills are set to head to Cleveland later this week for a pair of joint practices with the Browns before playing a preseason game on Saturday afternoon. Though the starters played multiple series against Carolina, it remains to be seen just how much, if at all, they'll play in the second preseason tilt.
