After a turbulent season of trade rumors and benchings, Buffalo’s young wideout eyes a breakout year while refining his elite physical tools under a franchise legend’s mentorship.
Keon Coleman, by his own admission, is entering a "make or break" year with the Buffalo Bills. The third-year wide receiver is coming off a season where he was a healthy scratch for multiple games, was constantly part of trade speculation, and had to deal with the fallout of his team owner's unusual comments.
Still, he's moved forward and is looking to prove to the Bills and anyone who'll be watching that he's not only an NFL receiver, but a good one.
To get to that point, Coleman has spent the offseason working with former Bills receiver Stevie Johnson. Johnson played in Buffalo from 2008-2013, and now takes part in numerous post-career ventures, including helping players during the offseason.
Speaking recently on One Bills Live, Johnson talked about Coleman's skills and that he believes he "can be the best".
“He can be the best," Johnson said. "He can be considered one of the best because he has every tool. He’s got the height, he’s got the size, he’s got the speed.
"He’s got it so much to the point where people kind of overlook it now because they’ve seen all of the great traits. They just want to see it always on Sunday. And that’s pretty much what we worked on."
Johnson says that Coleman is a true student of the game, and that gives him the belief things will turn around for the 23-year-old. Of course, however, Coleman has to continue put in the work and show that he is improving.
"He’s still got to go out and put all of his tools together each week and make it happen," he said.
Since the end of last season, and especially after Joe Brady was hired as the team's head coach, the Bills have continued to speak about their belief in the 2024 second-round pick. Brady has said he has plans for Coleman to be a big part of the offseason this year, and quarterback Josh Allen has publicly expressed his belief in the third-year pro.
Whether that belief leads to results, well, that will be determined later this year.
